There’s a running joke in our family.
No matter where my husband and I travel, we will inevitably find the local kitchen store.
Historic downtown? Kitchen store.
Beach vacation? Kitchen store.
European getaway? Definitely a kitchen store.
It’s become one of our favorite travel traditions. Whether we’re wandering through a charming Italian village, exploring the gourmet food halls of Chicago, or ducking into a tiny cookware shop tucked along a cobblestone street, we always seem to come home inspired—and usually with at least one new kitchen gadget we didn’t know we needed.
After years of traveling and visiting some truly incredible specialty kitchen stores, we’ve come to a surprising conclusion:
Our favorite one is still right here in the Black Hills.
Tucked right off I-90, just minutes from downtown Rapid City, Someone’s in the Kitchen is so much more than a kitchen store.
It’s a place where home cooks, seasoned chefs, coffee lovers, bakers, entertainers, and gift shoppers all seem to find exactly what they didn’t know they were looking for.
Beautiful cookware. Specialty foods. Gourmet olive oils and spices. Baking essentials. Coffee equipment. Kitchen gadgets that actually make sense. Unique serving pieces. Local wines. South Dakota treasures. Thoughtful gifts for any occasion.
Every shelf feels carefully curated, and every visit offers something new to discover.
If you’re looking for inspiration—or simply the perfect gift—it’s one of those stores that’s nearly impossible to leave empty-handed.
Of course, every great store begins with great people.
Owners Ashley and Jade Berry have continued the legacy of making Someone’s in the Kitchen one of Rapid City’s most beloved local businesses. They’ve built upon a wonderful foundation while keeping that welcoming atmosphere that longtime customers have loved for years.
One of the things I appreciate most is the incredible staff. Many team members have been part of the store through multiple chapters of its history, bringing years of product knowledge, genuine enthusiasm, and exceptional customer service to every interaction.
Need help choosing a chef’s knife?
Looking for a wedding gift that won’t end up in the back of a cabinet?
Trying to decide between two espresso makers?
Just ask.
You’re not talking to someone reading the back of the box—you’re talking to people who truly know and love the products they carry.
That kind of experience is becoming increasingly rare, and it’s one of the reasons we find ourselves returning again and again.
One of my favorite things about Someone’s in the Kitchen is that the store is constantly evolving.
Summer might feature everything you need to create the perfect Fourth of July backyard table, complete with colorful serving pieces, outdoor entertaining essentials, festive linens, and clever accessories that make hosting feel effortless.
As autumn arrives, the shelves transition into cozy entertaining, soup season, warm spices, and beautiful serving pieces for holiday gatherings.
Then comes Christmas—a season when the entire store feels like a celebration. Baking supplies, gourmet treats, thoughtful hostess gifts, stocking stuffers, elegant entertaining pieces…it’s impossible not to leave feeling inspired.
And not every occasion needs to be a holiday.
Planning the ultimate movie night? You’ll find gourmet popcorn, specialty seasonings, popcorn oils, fun serving bowls, and everything you need to elevate an ordinary evening into something memorable.
Hosting a charcuterie night with friends? You’ll discover beautiful boards, specialty jams, artisan crackers, unique spreads, and all the finishing touches.
Sometimes the best memories begin around the kitchen table.
Someone’s in the Kitchen simply helps make those moments a little more beautiful.
As a Rapid City brand photographer, I spend a lot of time looking at products differently than most people.
I’m drawn to beautiful packaging, thoughtful displays, interesting textures, rich colors, and the tiny details that tell a brand’s story.
That’s one of the reasons I always love photographing Someone’s in the Kitchen.
Every display has been thoughtfully curated. Every seasonal collection tells its own story. Everywhere I look, there’s another photograph waiting to happen.

Whether I’m photographing handcrafted mugs, sparkly drink ware, gourmet ingredients, artisan foods, colorful kitchen linens, or beautifully wrapped gifts, my goal is always the same:
To create images that make people feel something.
Great product photography isn’t simply about documenting what’s on the shelf.
It’s about helping someone imagine bringing that product into their own home.
It’s about inspiring a dinner party.
A holiday tradition.
A Saturday morning baking session with grandchildren.
A quiet cup of coffee before the house wakes up.
The best commercial photography tells stories long before a customer walks through the front door.
Living in the Black Hills means we’re fortunate to have so many outstanding locally owned businesses.
When you shop local, you’re supporting neighbors who genuinely care about our community. You’re discovering products selected with intention instead of algorithms. You’re receiving recommendations from people who know what they’re talking about.
And you’re helping unique businesses continue to thrive in downtown Rapid City.
As someone who has the privilege of photographing local businesses throughout the Black Hills, I’ve seen firsthand the passion, creativity, and hard work that goes into building a place like Someone’s in the Kitchen.
It’s why I love telling stories through photography.
Because behind every beautiful storefront is an even better story.
If you’ve never visited Someone’s in the Kitchen, I highly recommend giving yourself more time than you think you’ll need.
Trust me.
You’ll walk in looking for one thing…
…and somehow leave with five.
Whether you’re searching for the perfect wedding gift, refreshing your kitchen, planning your next gathering, or simply looking for inspiration, Someone’s in the Kitchen is one of Rapid City’s true local gems.
